’Courage is not the absence of fear – it is inspiring others to move beyond it.’’ – Nelson Mandela

Why did I apply? I was ready for a challenge! The United Netherlands program, combined with my background in law and psychology, and my specific interest in mediation would give me an interesting view in finding solutions for global challenges. The program could help me formulate my opinions, make my idea’s be heard and bring them across convincingly to a broad audience.

On the picture you see me (third from the left), together with my fellow delegates at the opening ceremony of Harvard National Model United Nations: the oldest, largest, and most respected Model United Nations conference in the world. This was the moment. This was what we had been working for the last six months. We had learned how to convince others, how to speak in public and how to lobby effectively. Before we went to Boston,  we just had our last intensive trainingsweek in New York. This was our moment and we were ready to shine and to put into practice everything we had learned.

Courage is not the absence of fear; it is inspiring others to move beyond it. United Netherlands helps students to find their voice and to inspire others to make this world a better place. To convince and inspire other people you will not only need ideas, ideals and knowledge; you also need the skills of public speaking and negotiation to spread those ideas.  So apply today! You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!
