'Month of the UN' 2009 has ended being a great success Friday December 4th MotUN 2009 came to an end. Four Monday evenings more than 30 students from different universities gathered in Nijmegen to learn about the fundamentals of the world behind diplomatic relations. The closing Model United Nations was the moment the participants could bring everything they had learned into practice. The MUN turned out to be a fun and fruitful day. During a whole Friday the delegates worked hard on the issue of self determination. The final resolution to solve the problem of Kurdistan was unanimously adopted. For all those who missed the great experience of MotUN 2009 we would love to welcome you during one of the other activities organized by United Netherlands! Yours faithfully, Lisa van Beek Director General MotUN 2009

UNL in Oxford The United Netherlands delegation of 2009|2010 is proud to announce it has won five honorable mention awards at this month's Oxford International Model United Nations (OxIMUN). More competitive than ever, this year's conference boasted the presence of many well known MUN societies, and delegations such as West Point Military Academy, the Belgian MUN Society, and our countrymen UUMUN and Leiden MUN. Our delegates proudly defended the interests of Chile, Egypt, France, and Burkina Faso. In committees as diverse as the Security Council and the Organization of American States, our delegates fought for the interests of these nations while maintaining the UNL spirit of multilateral cooperation. Additionally, the United Netherlands delegation introduced all participants into the many delights of Dutch cuisine, which in this instance was limited to Stroopwafels, Pepernoten, Haagse Hopjes, and Speculaas. Furthermore, it is safe to say the delegation dominated the dance floor. The cultural diversity led to everything ranging from Latin American salsa to hardcore gabber! Nevertheless, while the social activities created an incredibly strong team feeling, delegates were constantly reminded of the fact that they were there for a purpose. They could be found up until 2 AM behind various laptops and college notebooks preparing amendments, resolutions, and working papers. After all, United Netherlands works hard, and plays hard!

WorldMUN 2009 a success!
This year, United Netherlands was proud to host the United Nations simulation conference that travels around the globe: WorldMUN 2009! This grand event took place from 22-27 March in the legal capital of the world: The Hague. More than 2500 delegates from over 50 countries participated at WorldMUN, making it the largest Model United Nations (MUN) outside the USA at university level. WorldMUN 2009 was an unforgettable conference. With committee sessions located in the majestic Peace Palace and the World Forum Convention Center, a symposium with renowned lawyers and even an ICTY judge, an international opportunities fair, a diplomacy workshop, visits to international institutions that The Hague is famous for, a cruise on some of Amsterdam's many canals and the many social events, WorldMUN 2009 was much more than just a Model United Nations. For more impressions and photos, please see the WorldMUN 2009 website. United Netherlands wishes to thank all her partners: Radboud University, Municipality of The Hague, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oxfam Novib, Hivos and many more. With all the experience gained by organizing WorldMUN in 2009, RiMUN and MotUN promise to be exceptional events in 2009-2010. |
