High School Program & Academy
Daan Roos is the President of United Netherlands this year. With a Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from Radboud University, Daan will take a year off from making computers smarter to lead United Netherlands to even greater heights. Daan’s interests in neuroscience and the way people learn new skills motivate him to increase the quality of United Netherlands’ programs even further. As President, Daan is responsible for external relations, the functioning of the board, and the success of the different programs.
Vice-President & Secretary
Dewi Lemmens first got in touch with United Netherlands some years ago through the Public Speaking Program. After a minor in political science in Canada and a research project on Solidarity & Women’s Empowerment in India, she decided to combine her interests in these areas by joining United Netherlands. This year Dewi will represent United Netherlands as the Vice-President and Secretary where she will focus on promotion and the external relations of United Netherlands. Next to that she will be working behind the scenes to make sure all programs run smoothly.
Wahe Davtyan is the treasurer of United Netherlands this year. After completing his bachelor in European Studies, Wahe is currently a master student in European Policy at the University of Amsterdam. Wahe is an ambitious, driven and enthusiastic person with interests in international relations, politics and global security. Before going to university Wahe used to play football on a professional level in the Netherlands. This year Wahe will use the drive and discipline that brought him to the highest level of football to his function as treasurer at United Netherlands. As treasurer, Wahe will be responsible for the financial policy of United Netherlands.
Ricardo van Mildert
Ricardo van Mildert is a Political Science Research Master’s student at Leiden University and is obtaining a Post-Graduate Certificate in European Policy Making at the Institute of European Studies from the Free University of Brussels. During his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Tilburg University, he focused on European culture and history and sociology, with a minor in international relations and a minor in philosophy from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Last year, after graduating from United Netherlands’ Delegation, he trained the High School Program and several Public Speaking Programs. This year, Ricardo will be the Head Delegate of the 15th Delegation and he is looking forward to guiding this year’s Delegation in their amazing adventure.
Martijn van Iwaarden
Model United Nations Trainer
Martijn van Iwaarden was born and raised in the Netherlands. He is currently studying History in the beautiful city of Groningen with a specialisation in Eastern and Middle European History. Martijn was a United Netherlands delegate in 2016-2017. During OxIMUN he represented Libya in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. At HNMUN, Martijn, together with his partner Frederike represented Canada in the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee where they received the Best Delegate award for his efforts. This year Martijn will be the MUN trainer. Therefore, his focus will be on training the Delegation in the strategical and procedural aspects of MUNs so that the delegates are ready to compete at the highest level.
Head Delegate and Director General of the High School Program
Luuk Mevis started his United Netherlands career a few years ago by participating in the Public Speaking Program. He became enthusiastic about the organization and after going a semester abroad to Budapest, joined the Delegation in 2016-2017. Having graduated from Political Science in Nijmegen he will fill his gap year with a year in the United Netherlands board. He will fulfill two part-time functions, being Head Delegate and Director-General of the High School Program. In his free time he likes to make music with the fanfare of Schimmert, the village he grew up in. He also likes to occasionally play sports, meet up with friends and have fierce debates about life, the universe and everything (42).
Alex van Erven
Director General of the Public Speaking Program
Alexander is a critical, pragmatic and reflective double-bachelor student at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Aside from studying Economics and Philosophy, Alexander also completed the Delegation, representing Canada at the General Assembly on the wellbeing of indigenous people. Having lived in Warsaw, Poland for 7 years, he speaks Dutch, English, Russian and Polish fluently. Throughout the year, Alex will be responsible for the realization of the Public Speaking Program, as well as promoting the interests of United Netherlands to external parties, as part of the Academy. His international experiences combined with a business-orientated mindset, puts him in the ideal position to embody the spirit of the United Netherlands, and lead the Academy to another impactful year.
